Illinois politics is a lot like a broken clock. Every once in awhile the clock is right. Sen. Jeff Schoenberg (D-Evanston) is floating the idea of privatizing Illinois' toll way system. It's a good idea. The only down side is that Schoenberg's motivation is more money in state coffers to grow government, not to pay for ongoing operations or tax releif. But, if the contract is legit and the deal is structured properly (and not structured to featherbed insiders), it will be a good deal for all. It would be especially nice if the funds could be used to fund a pension fund transition to a portable defined contribution system or pay down some of the state's debt. Alas, I'm sure I ask for too much.
