In addition to the in-depth Pro-Family Online Voter Guide found on Illinois Review, Culture Campaign is providing information to compare gubernatorial candidates. The system is imaginative and provides a way for voters to select two candidates and compare and contrast their responses to eleven questions.
For those whose minds are not made up yet, the Culture Campaign page comparing conservative candidates Bill Brady and Jim Oberweis indicates one difference: Brady is "undecided" on whether gambling should be expanded in Illinois. Oberweis is opposed.
This week, downstate Republicans received a full color mailing from Senator Brady with personal endorsements from prolife lobbyists Ralph Rivera and Nick Stojakovich, profamily lobbyist Rev. Bob VandenBosch, Culture Campaign's head Sandy Rios, conservative activist Holly Rich from Quincy, among others.
National conservative leader Phyllis Schlafly has sent out an endorsement letter and a recorded phone call encouraging Downstaters to support Jim Oberweis. Family Taxpayer Founder Jack Roeser has contributed generously to the Oberweis campaign.
It appears now that the powerful conservative bloc in the Republican party will be split between Brady and Oberweis, leaving socially-moderate Judy Baar-Topinka as the projected winner in Tuesday's primary.
