Word in the Granite City area is that the Hope(less) Abortion Clinic has cancelled all abortions today and is focused on the court appearance mentioned yesterday on Illinois Review.
Hope Clinic is one of the only abortion clinics in Illinois that performs late term and partial birth abortions. The Michaels, who are the focus of today's court appearance, have faithfully led daily protests outside the facility for years.
Mrs. Michaels, a registered nurse, offers ultrasounds to expectant mothers planning to abort their unborn babies. She reports saving the lives of thousands over the years. Many of those she sees everyday enter Hope Clinic are from states surrounding Illinois, minors who are brought across state lines, and those who have waited too long in their pregnancies who are now seeking late term abortions.
Last year, the Illinois House passed a bill that would have severely restricted offering ultrasounds in those circumstances. The bill died in the Illinois Senate.
The Michaels have been threatened with lawsuits by Hope's practicing abortionist, have been harassed by legislative action, and now face another lawsuit. The family, with ten children, faithfully continue to fight the gruesome practice in their hometown. Today's court appearance will be yet another in a long string of obstacles they have been forced to overcome.
Feeling depressed and discouraged in the battle for promoting traditional family values and religious beliefs? Take heart. The Michaels' example of faith and perseverence to a cause they deeply believe in should give us all hope and then shame us for feeling so sorry for ourselves, living in the abortion dumping ground of the Midwest.
