Crain's Chicago Business reported Saturday, June 10 on its web site that 75-year old Mr. Cub, Ernie Banks, recently told the Tribune Company he would be interested purchasing the Cubs or being a part owner.
Ernie lives in Texas and has been president of a promotion company called "Let's Play Two!" The Hall of Famer still keeps up a lively interest in the only major league team he ever played for. The Tribune Company is selling off some assets related to the Cubs broadcasting network but denies that major jewels in the crown such as the team are for sale. But if that changes, Banks would be an ideal suitor. The Cubs have suffered for decades of disinterested team owners and it would be a great change of pace to find an owner with the entusiasm and positive mental attitude of the legendary number 14.
