Judy Barr Topinka announced yesterday that she wants to build a new casino with 3,000 seats in Chicago, and massively expand the seats at the existing casinos. As the AP reports, her campaign estimates this will bring in in excess of $1 billion dollars. She will spend this money to get the fiscal house in order. Two simple questions: 1) where does the $1 billion come from? Answer: out of people's pockets. Out of family budgets. Out of other, productive uses. 2) Who are the primary targets to get this additional $1 billion to spend on our bloated bureaucracy? Answer, the poor, the elderly, those who cannot afford it. Those who gamble trying to get a break that never comes.
This is blood money, so to speak. We get the money and if people's lives are destroyed, oh what the hell. We wouldn't want to consider cutting the massive fat out of Illinois bloated massive budget, now would we? And this is really the way to motivate the GOP faithful to come out and vote, isn't it?
I am a good Republican, I want the Republican to win, and I keep wanting to believe she can do it and will be a good governor. Then she pulls this kind of stuff. I know a lot of votes she lost today.
