We find opposites in almost every circumstance. Boy vs. girl, black vs. white and good vs. evil are all used as classic examples.
A loser on one list is no doubt a winner on another list. Sierra Club has posted Henry Hyde, Don Manzullo, John Shimkus and Jerry Weller from Illinois as losers because of their environmental vote in 2005. According to the League of Conservation Voters, "these members of Congress got every important environmental vote in 2005 absolutely wrong."
These same congressmen appear on the "winner" list if you check out the property rights scorecard. Property rights scored them as getting every important environmental vote in 2005 as "absolutely right."
It is disappointing there were only four of our Illinois congressmen listed on Sierra Club's loser list. A major disappointment on the property rights scorecard is Mark Kirk (R) with a property rights vote of only 29% and Tim Johnson (R) with a 43%. Johnson sits on the agricultural committee and should have a better property vote. Loser scores of only 14% came from Schakowsky, Rush, Lipinski, Gutierrez, Evans, Emanuel and Davis. However, these would appear as winners on the League of Conservation Voters scorecard. Jackson scored a zero for property rights.
The environmentalists have a lot of pocket change--they also get a lot of government grants. They intimidate and make it known they will use their money to unseat those termed as the "dirty dozen" who vote against their issues. They didn't like Tom DeLay. They really dislike Richard Pombo (R), CA chairman of the House Committee on Resources. Pombo is known for his common sense approach to the environment and resources and this does not set well with Sierra Club and League of Conservation Voters. DeLay is gone but they will use that pocket change at every opportunity to try to defeat Pombo, the Illinois congressmen mentioned as well as others on their hit list.
To determine if you are an environmentalist or for property rights, you need to examine your personal understanding of the United States Constitution. The Constitution was written to guarantee freedom for the people of the United States. We are seeing these rights and freedoms vanish and we need to understand why.
