On Tuesday, IR wrote here that Colonel Raymond True announced Jim Oberweis would be assuming the role of Republican Assembly of Illinois chairman. As noted in today's GOPUSA Illinois Daily Clips, RAI Executive Director Jim Leahy disagreed with True's comments.
Tuesday evening, Colonel True confirmed once again that his comments had been accurately reported by IR. In that story, I also reported that Colonel True conveyed comments made to him by Mr. Oberweis that Oberweis was open to becoming the IL GOP chairman.
Wednesday, I received the following voice mail from Jim Oberweis. I am quoting his message verbatim. Mr. Oberweis did not deny his potential Republican Assembly chairmanship. He did, however, say he was not seeking the post of IL GOP chairman at this time.
His words:
Hey, Fran. It's Jim Oberweis. I just wanted to correct something you had on Illinois Review, indicating that I expressed an interest in being state party chairman.
I did a few years ago, but I have no interest in doing that at this time.
You might want to clarify that -- I'm not sure why you thought I did at this time, unless it was that I did a few years ago, which makes sense.
I've moved past that and I think there are other people who could probably do a better job than I.
Thanks, have a nice day and a happy Thanksgiving.
