Per the Governor's request, legislation that would authorize the sale of the state's lottery to a third party for not less than $10 billion was voted on Friday in the House. His intention was to use lottery sale proceeds to catch up with unmet pension obligations.
The Governor's plan was rejected outright by a bi-partisan majority, just as his proposal to increase the state's gross receipts tax was in May.
HB 2055 was supported by only six Democrat votes -- the six remaining Blagojevich loyalists in the House -- Richard Bradley, Will Davis, Ken Dunkin, Kurt Granberg, Jay Hoffman and Kevin McCarthy.
78 House members opposed and 11 voted present. 21 weren't in Springfield.
