Planned Parenthood's credibility is in the gutter these days. While they say they're trying to protect women by putting bulletproof glass in their Aurora facility, they're fighting a new Missouri law requiring clinics performing five or more abortions a month to adhere to "ambulatory surgery facilities'" standards.
Planned Parenthood filed suit to stop the new law's enforcement. A Missouri judge ordered a stay to allow negotiations between Planned Parenthood and the state.
From today's St. Louis Post-Dispatch . . .
The order is in response to a suit filed by Planned Parenthood of Kansas and Mid-Missouri, which provides medical and surgical abortions at clinics in Kansas City and Columbia. A Bridgeton physician who performs abortions, Dr. Allen Palmer, later joined the suit.
State Health Department officials say that the new law, passed by the Legislature earlier this year, is prompted by concerns for patient safety.
We have an identical problem in Illinois. Our state's veterinary clinics have higher health care standards than abortuaries, as outrageous as it might seem.
Planned Parenthood should be fighting for high health care standards for abortion providers if they really what to protect women as they insist they do.
