Hold off filling your tanks until Thursday. By then, if things work out like they're hoping, Dick Durbin and Bill Foster will have fixed everything then by holding a press conference in Aurora pushing for another investigation. No call for a federal gas tax suspension is expected.
Note they'll be standing in front of a Marathon station, not a Hugo Chavez-related Citgo, as noted in the St. Charles Sun.
During a 3 p.m. briefing in Aurora – the pair will be in Elgin earlier in the day – Durbin will talk about his push for a federal inquiry into record high prices that are impacting consumers. Foster, recently elected to represent the 14th Congressional District, will explain his efforts, which include a call for legal action against OPEC and suspending payments to the nation’s strategic petroleum reserve. The Aurora briefing is scheduled for the Marathon gas station at Elmwood Drive and Illinois Avenue. Foster and Durbin, both Democrats, are scheduled to appear in Elgin near a gas station at Route 25 and Oak Hill Road.
