As reported by the Chicago Daily News, sister paper of the Chicago Sun-Times:
One bandit was shot and killed by a real estate businessman named Donald Kearney, a second was wounded when they tried to hold him up in a building at 4121 Vincennes.Kearney, who worked nearby, had gone there to collect rent. As he left an apartment there, two men came up from behind, shoved a revolver into his back and announced a robbery.
Kearney responded by whipping out a revolver of his own from an underarm holster. He wheeled and fired, mortally wounding one of the bandits, who "crawled a few steps, collapsed and died"
