COMMENTARY -- Today is a day long anticipated by Obama followers, and one the media, Hollywood, liberals, leftists have sought to celebrate since the November 2000 election. For eight years, with ultimate revenge on their minds, liberal Democrats worked to make America discontented and angry with Republicans. Shamefully, Republicans gradually began aiding and abetting their political enemy, rather than stay true to principles that made our country and the movement great. We allowed greed, pride and arrogance to erode public support as some within our ranks foolishly became convinced of their own importance and invincibility.
Today, the seriousness of this cooperative mindset became even more evident. Republicans throughout Illinois are appearing to have lost their moorings yet once again by taking advantage of the good will towards Democrats, liberalism and Barack Obama: State Senator Dan Rutherford (R-Pontiac) is distributing Obama memorabilia for contributions to his own Republican aspirations, State Senator Kirk Dillard (R-Burr Ridge) was interviewed by WBEZ at a DC Inauguration event, boasting his personal friendship with Obama landed him a ticket to a prestigious inaugural ball and the State Party Chairman released a statement congratulating Obama, and declaring this a day to set aside partisanship and celebrate America.
Is this the way to fight the ongoing, intense battle for the future of our state and nation? When the enemy is declaring victory, is it good strategic tactic to hoist a white flag and join in the celebration?
What's your thoughts -- how wise is it for Republicans and conservatives to declare a cease fire when the other side is exploding in its aggression?
