A month long "It's Not Easy Being Right" membership drive culminated Monday night with a thousand Chicago Young Republicans converging just across the street from Wrigley Field, where the Cubby Bear's atmosphere beat with a new hope for Republicans -- younger, fresher and determined to change things in Illinois.
The YRs featured a Peoria area Young Republican and congressional rock star 27 year old Cong. Aaron Schock, who told the crowd young Republicans are emerging and taking the lead throughout the state. Schock was joined onstage by Fox News contributor Mary Katherine Ham, WIND AM 560's Guy Benson and author Harry Stein. 2010 gubernatorial candidates charged up the crowd between Chicago rock band 16 Candles' sets.
Illinois Republicans aren't just nodding to the twenty-something set, Young Republicans are emerging as state and national leaders. Cook County GOP Chairman Lee Roupas, State Central Committeeman Steve Daglas, Cong. Schock, 11th CD congressional candidate Adam Kinzinger and the Chicago YRs president Jeremy Rose are all 30 and under. Illinois Young Republican chairman Dennis Cook is running for comptroller and media spokesman Dan Proft, businessman Adam Andrzejewski and State Senator Matt Murphy are all under 40.
At all appearances the Chicago YRs event Monday night, it's not only easy, it's pretty cool to be right in Chicago. Congratulations to the Chicago YR team -- Jeremy Rose, Laura Kotelman, Corrine Williams, Kyle Stone and Larry Lanaway, and all the others that made the evening successful.
