Chicago Public Radio highlights key issues on the Illinois Legislature's table this last session day of 2009...campaigns, cemeteries, gambling and free rides.
- Legislation on limiting campaign contribution passed through the Illinois House yesterday, and the Senate is considering the plan, today.
- The Senate is also expected to debate new cemetery regulations. The plan could require cemetery operators to submit burial records to the state.
- Various proposals to expand gambling are also on deck. That includes a plan to allow video poker payout at truck stops.
- Lawmakers are also expected to continue negotiating a plan to scale back a statewide program giving free public transit rides to seniors citizens. The Governor is reportedly asking the Chicago Transit Authority not to raise fares in exchange for state money.
