Finally, after months and months of backroom negotiations, the House Democrats will unveil their bill outlining the government takeover of healthcare. Though not as radical as the “robust” version of the government-run option, this version is nonetheless frightening: tax increases, job losses and more than $100 billion in cuts to Medicare. We’ll soon know what the bill looks like; it’s time to find out where Bill Foster, Debbie Halvorson and for that matter, where Melissa Bean stands.
Comment from the National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC):
“Now that the Democrats have laid their cards on the table, Bill Foster needs to take a stand on this tax increasing, job killing, Medicare cutting, trillion dollar government takeover of healthcare.” – Tom Erickson, NRCC spokesman
House Healthcare Bill To Be Unveiled This Morning. “House Democrats reached agreement Wednesday on key elements of a health care bill that would vastly alter America's medical landscape, requiring virtually universal sign-ups and offering a new government-run insurance option for millions. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi was planning a formal announcement Thursday morning, contingent on the outcome of a meeting of House leaders Wednesday afternoon, according to lawmakers and aides. Officials said the legislation could be up for a vote on the House floor next week.” (ERICA WERNER, “House Democrats prepare to unveil health bill,” Associated Press, 10/28/09)
