The following video might not be the expensive, slick work of cinematography an establishment candidate with the deep pocket donors like Representative Mark Kirk (RINO, IL-10) could afford, but it is interesting nonetheless. This was provided by the Independence Caucus and what it lacks in flash, it makes up in educational value. Those who support candidates such as Mark Kirk may be quick to condemn this video and perhaps claim that such activity is simply how things work in politics. They may be correct, but that does not mean this sliminess is "right"!
Regarding his "conservative" vote for the economy-killing, job-eliminating nightmare of Cap and Trade to appease the environmental groups to which he enjoys pandering, he claimed it was in "the narrow interest" of his district. I suppose this means that his district was interested in paying more for everything and punishing any business that may dare operate. Was his support of the redistributive TARP also in "the narrow interest" of his district? Did "the narrow interest" of his district just happen to coincide with "the narrow interest" of his donors and "the narrow interest" of his pockets?
Perhaps once again, the rallying cry of Kirk's supporters will be the man's military service. If so, once again, it will be necessary to point out that his military service is indeed honorable, but does not compensate for the political actions and character flaws such that he should even be considered worthy of a vote. Certainly the pawns of the establishment candidate will scream of his good votes and claim that those who recognize that some of his bad votes are so horrendous that they cannot be offset by some good votes are political simpletons who just cannot grasp the wheeling and dealing liberty trade-offs and vote selling that is an integral part of politics.
Look around. How are things in our country and in our state? Are the actions of our governments improving those situations? If so, let's promote Mark Kirk to the Senate since he has been an integral part of the great progress our federal government has made in recent years. What do you say? Are you fired up to promote the man recruited by John McCain to join him in the Senate? Are you set to look beyond his conveniently coincidental rise in TARP recipient donations (coincidental with his vote for TARP)? Do you accept that the vote for Cap and Trade was simply an act of representation and one he would not repeat now that he is a born again Senate candidate?
At the risk of being lashed as a single-issue, bible-thumping, backwoods zealot, I would also ask if you are prepared to overlook all of the above in addition to his vote on behalf of the procedure which involves stabbing babies in the back of the head and suctioning out their brains?
The video was made by a group that supports Judge Don Lowery for Senate and I have supported Patrick Hughes for Senate. This might also cause gnashing of teeth. I argue that the video needs to be disseminated regardless of which alternative to the RINO Mark Kirk is mentioned. I realize that the conservative vote is likely to be split and the establishment RINO is likely to emerge victorious. I realize that come November, Illinois voters will likely be faced with choosing between a lib and a Dem... or maybe I am wrong. The votes, ideals, and coincidental donations might simply be those of a "moderate", a man doing the good work for all people, everything to everyone... depending on the audience.
