from the Thomas More Society
The Thomas More Society as part of a coalition of pro-life and pro-family groups has been fighting Illinois House Bill 6205, the Reproductive Health and Access Act, which was defeated late last week.
For the third year now, members of the Illinois House have attempted to pass this pernicious bill dubbed the "Illinois FOCA" law because of its similarity to the "Freedom of Choice Act" that the US Congress contemplated in 2009.
This extremely anti-life bill would have entrenched abortion as a fundamental human right in Illinois even if Roe v. Wade was overturned.
In addition, it would have forced "condom training" comprehensive sex-ed to be taught from pre-school in all Illinois public schools, repealed all restrictions on abortion and hindered women from seeking justice in the event of a botched abortion.
Through a harrowing effort of grassroots activism involving thousands of Illinoisans calling, writing and visiting their State Representatives, the bill was never brought up for a vote.
