Sunday, two Chicago lawmakers proposed calling in the National Guard to stop violence on the city's streets. In the last few months 113 people have been killed in a nine-block section on Chicago's west side, the same number of U.S. military personnel killed in Iraq and Afghanistan during the same time frame.
State Reps. John Fritchey and LaShawn Ford, both Chicago-based Democrats, called on Mayor Daley, Governor Quinn and Chicago Police Superintendent Jody Weis to call in the National Guard before the warm summer months, more outside activity and more killings.
"I hope this doesn't become a territorial issue. I hope this doesn't become an ego issue," Fritchey said in the Chicago Tribune. "This isn't about public relations or politics. This is about reclaiming our communities."
What do you think? Is it time to call in the National Guard to Chicago's violent streets?
