You know you've made it in the big time when where you don't go is news, as is the case in today's headline stories about U.S. Senate candidate Mark Kirk not planning to be at Sarah Palin's May 12th GOP fundraising appearance in Rosemont.
What's the news? Kirk hasn't reached out to the IL GOP's conservative base, and from all intents and purposes, it appears Kirk's campaign strategy is to ignore the conservatives and Tea Partiers, and let the national news about the Kirk campaign gaining momentum against the failed banker Alexi Giannoulias do their work for them. Anyway, Kirk won't be a Palin's event. But for the most part, Palin fans won't miss Kirk at all.
Kirk's Democratic opponent Alexi Giannoulias continues to try and deflect criticism and is scheduled to attend Barack Obama's appearance in Quincy today, but no meeting between them is planned (maybe no photo op, either?).
And State Rep. John Fritchey and LaShawn Ford's embarrassing admission that Chicago's street violence is out of control and their call for martial law continues to fill headlines HERE, HERE and HERE. But the ban on cell phone sexting is on its way to Governor Quinn, as well as growing protests from those affected by Quinn's proposed budget cuts: municipalities, drunks and drug addicts, and retirees.
