Peoria County State's Attorney Kevin Lyons said Monday his office will prosecute violations of the state smoking ban at no cost to municipalities in an effort to uniformly enforce the law.
Speaking to a group of mayors, Lyons said that once a ticket is issued, his office's civil prosecutors will handle all enforcement-related matters.
The move will make sure there are no "safe havens" in Peoria County for smokers or taverns violating the law, he said.
