from the Schilling for Congress campaign
EAST MOLINE, IL--President Barack Obama will be making a campaign stop in Quincy, IL tomorrow. Yesterday, the President posted a video encouraging his supporters to get involved in the 2010 midterm elections. In light of recent polling and a remark about the constitution, many believe that he is coming to give a boost to Rep. Phil Hare. Bobby Schilling, Phil Hare's opponent in November, says that this visit from the President is a sign of their campaign's viability.
"I don't think the President would be wasting his time here, if this wasn't a race," said Schilling. "The President's time is extremely valuable, I would hope he wouldn't spend it doing field trips. Because of our supporters, our campaign has been making great strides towards November. If a visit from the President doesn't convince people that we have a viable campaign, then I don't know what will. The bottom line is that Hare is in trouble and everyone knows it."
A poll release right before the healthcare vote, showed that Schilling was within 7 points of Rep. Hare, with over 25% undecided. Schilling said that Hare's votes in support of reckless spending and higher taxes have made him vulnerable in a district designed for moderate Democrats.
Schilling, a native of Rock Island, graduated from Alleman High School and attended Black Hawk College. Schilling, a local business owner and father of ten children, is the Republican candidate for the 17th Congressional District in Illinois. Bobby is running on a platform of bringing jobs and real representation back to the 17th District. Earlier this year, Schilling conducted a 34-city "Bob's for Jobs" tour, where he met with voters and employers all across the 17th District.
