Frequent Illinois Review commenter Rick Biesada owns a business in the Chicago neighborhood that experienced a deadly shooting over the weekend. He shared his first hand experience and always provocative thoughts, and we didn't want you to miss them -
My business is in that neighborhood, I saw the police taping off the area and writing down information "after" the shooting yesterday. This neighborhood was pretty well under control while Phil Cline was the Chicago Police Superintendent. He had aggressive young police patroling the area and school zones. You actually saw older residents walking around out side of their homes during the day.
Since they brought in Jody Weiss and Garry McCarthy, this neighborhood has gone back to shambles again. Pimps, hookers, muggers, drug dealers and thieves are roaming the streets, selling drugs in school zones, and scaring residents back into their homes. The neighborhood looks like a war zone and the only people you see out on the streets besides the hookers, pimps, and thieves, are the look outs for the drug dealers.
I'm sure Mr. Weiss and Mr. McCarthy are well intentioned guys, but they are not from Chicago and don't know about our corrupt political system, or the ignoramous we have acting as a mayor. A guy that cries about crime and then declares Chicago a sanctuary city, which then acts as a magnet for criminals. You can't have it both ways.
Perhaps that's why these gentlemen were brought in to act as stooges for our corrupt politicians. It is the politicians that tie the hands of the police. The politicians are responsible for Chicago's high crime rate. We have plenty of decent, hard working, experienced, Chicago police officers that should be tapped as superintendent and high ranking officers. This would bolster morale and inspire unity within the ranks of the police force.
Keep the politicians away from the police department and fire the judges that give out light sentences to repeat offenders. We have to get back to reality.
The other day I heard Alderman Burnett on a radio show talking about all of the recent carnage. To paraphrase Burnett, he told the hosts that we had a high number of killings so far since the beginning of the year and we're not even into the killing season yet. This must have went right over the hosts heads, because they didn't respond to what I would consider an idiotic statement ... "a killing season."
"A killing season" uttered by a politician that took an oath to uphold the law, and he actually believes that we have an official killing season in Chicago.
That's how bad it's gotten, our political class has completely lost it's moral compass. This is unacceptable, and any public servant that takes such a lackadaisical attitude about murder, or crime, should be run out of office.
