Disappointment is a completely inadequate word to describe my profound reaction to the folly of voters in Illinois and nationally. But despair is a grave sin that we are not permitted to indulge. I search hard for bright spots and I do find them but not in the landscape of elections and politics. Mitt Romney himself said at the Al Smith Dinner, "There is more to life than politics." So the bright spots I look for are in local iniatives in the private sector, in the arts, and in the great volunteer sectors. Maybe this electoral disaster might finally cure the pro-life movement from too much focus on politics and not enough on educating the public for example. It is still always better to light one candle than to curse the darkness.
