SPRINGFIELD - Eleven years ago, Barack Obama conveyed his concern about doctors such as Kermit Gosnell on the Illinois Senate Floor. In 2002, during a discussion on state legislation about babies born alive, he said legislation protecting babies born alive could cause physicians to be blamed for the deaths of babies born alive after mothers sought abortions.
Gosnell's victims "Babies A, C and D," were born alive after 24 weeks of development, and Gosnell was found guilty Monday afternoon of 1st degree murder because he actively ended their lives shortly after birth.
"...This issue ultimately is about abortion, and not live births because if these are children that are born alive," Obama said in 2002, "I, at least, have confidence that a doctor in that room would make sure they're looked after [as babies born alive]." Audio below ...
