PEORIA – Republican National Committeewoman Demetra DeMonte is endorsing Tom Cross to become Illinois’ next treasurer. DeMonte cited Cross’ reform-driven agenda and fiscal conservative record as key reasons why he will be successful in the office of treasurer.
"I'm excited about Tom Cross' announcement because he will bring reform-minded, fiscal-conservative leadership to the office of Treasurer," said DeMonte. "Equally as important, Tom Cross has a strong record of always putting taxpayers first and I’m confident he will continue to put taxpayers first as our next state treasurer.”
As treasurer, Cross pledged to use the full power of the office to require the legislature to enact a balanced budget, including legal remedies. And continuing his commitment to reform, Tom will establish a Government Integrity Unit inside the treasurer’s office, comprised of financial experts, former prosecutors and law enforcement officials who will be charged with the task to review state financial documents to ensure their accuracy and protect state pension funds from corruption and fraud.
“We must bring all the resources we can muster to ending this cycle of fiscal irresponsibility, fraud and waste,” said Cross. “I believe the treasurer’s office can play a pivotal role in that effort as well as in achieving our ultimate goal, which is to make Illinois a better place for all of us. “
DuPage County Auditor Bob Grogan is also seeking the IL GOP nomination for state treasurer in 2014.
