PALATINE - Life-long Palatine resident and former State Rep Bob Bergman, 65, passed away peacefully in his sleep Friday morning, November 29th, after a long and courageous battle against cancer.
"Next to his children and family, there was nothing that Bob loved more than Republican politics and a great political debate. His in depth candidate research, spirited verbiage and intense bantering will long be remembered. He cared deeply about his friends. . . and, we all loved Bob," wrote Pat Sutarik about Rep. Bergman's death.
Illinois Review readers knew Rep. Bergman as "X-None of the Above," his pseudonym as a longtime commenter. Rep. Bergman revealed himself to IR readers in the response of an open letter he wrote to Congressman Peter Roskam (IL-6) in March 2013, and asked Illinois Review to publish.
In that letter, some of Rep. Bergman's passion for conservative values and political gamesmanship comes through:
During the time I served with you in the Illinois General Assembly, our party had some successes and some failures. But we did have a coherent strategy and some capable spokesmen.
Speaker Boehner is now drawing a line-in-the-sand, Wile E. Coyote style, over the Debt-Limit and stepping back three months! Since 2010 it seems the Republican Senate and House leaders are in dire need of a basic, crash-course on political leadership 101.
WHY isn't the Speaker holding committee and sub-committee hearings on obsolete and harmful government programs, waste, overspending, fraud, crony-capitalism, corruption, outmoded and unproductive tax codes, and ways to allow private enterprise to spur the economy?
Visitation/Memorial and/or Funeral arrangements are currently being made by his family at this writing.
Cards of condolences can be sent to the Bergman family c/o Jessie Bergman, 250 S Rohlwing Rd in Palatine, IL 60074-6401.
