TROY - Last month Illinois Review reported (HERE) about the Madison County Health Department closing down an 11-year old girl's cupcake business.
The Belleville News-Democrat reports today that the owner of an O'Fallon plumbing company will lead the way in building 11-year-old Chloe Stirling a commercial kitchen onto her Troy home. Jason Spengler says the private donation-funded construction project should bring her into compliance with the arcane state law, and will be completed by mid-May.
Madison County health officials shut down the girl's $200-a-month operation last month after concluding her kitchen wasn't a commercial one requiring a permit and inspection, and therefore presented a serious health threat to the community.
In addition to the gift of a government-mandated commercial kitchen, General Electric is donating a new oven so that she will be in compliance with Illinois law when it comes to appliances as well.
It is unclear how much the Madison County Health permits will cost, or how that will impact Ms. Stirling's $200 per month revenue stream.
