WASHINGTON - Illinois Congressman Adam Kinzinger is arguing that the U.S. military said the military has too often been a target of budget cuts.
Kinzinger told WJBC radio, "When was the last time the president announced a major restructuring not of the military but of the Department of Interior or the Department of Energy or any federal beaurocracy?" Kinzinger asked. "They don't. They don't do that."
Kinzinger agrees there is room to reign in some military benefits, but said the cuts in defense remind him of a pre-9-11 mentality.
"I remember hearing this exact same conversation right before this thing called 9-11 happened," Kinzinger said. "The idea was wider, quicker, faster and everything else. We found out, agree or disagree with (invading) Iraq, we went in with too few troops."
