SPRINGFIELD - An audit released by Illinois Auditor General Bill Holland’s office Thursday showed the Illinois Department of Health and Family Services paid $12 million for the health care of 8,232 dead people still on Medicaid rolls, qualifying for benefits.
And although they had been dead for two years or so, 561 were found to be enrolled in the state's health programs, costing the state $7 million.
But, the state says, they're getting the money back.
