The recent exposure of "smoking gun" Benghazi emails remind me of what Mad Men's Elizabeth Moss said about her divorce from SNL alum Fred Armisen.
These sorts of seemingly disjointed thoughts aren't unusual for someone who reads not only the Wall Street Journal, Forbes, National Review and of course, Illinois Review, but also the National Enquirer, The Smoking Gun and Gawker. I have said it for years, and I'll repeat it here. Conservatives cannot hide from the popular culture.
If the recent episode, this week's Lame Stream Media shiny object, involving a clown/reprobate NBA owner's mental detritus recorded by his semi-deformed "girlfriend," didn't serve as a reminder, it should have. ("Girlfriend" apparently is the currently preferred euphemism for a woman who has sex with a man 50 years her senior in exchange for luxury cars and real estate. I can think of another word …)
As depressing as it may be to contemplate, many of your fellow citizens are getting their "news" from not only the LSM, but other even more ridiculous sources like "The Daily Show," and ABC's "Good Morning (Moron) America" and, God help us, "The View." That's how they have earned the moniker "low information voters." So, we need to know the sort of garbage they are being fed as actual news instead of the real thing.
At the risk that some of you might be in the position I'm in when I go to the hairdresser or the manicurist, and see some dead tree rag like "People" Magazine, and don't know who these "celebrities" are, let me tell you. Elizabeth Moss is an actress who plays the character "Peggy" on AMC's TV show "Mad Men." For a Hollywood eternity, as in eight months, she was married to Fred Armisen, who used to be on "Saturday Night Live," and now is on some show called "Late Night With Seth Meyers." In March, 2013, Ms. Moss told New York Magazine that the experience was "extremely traumatic and awful and horrible," and then described reading the media coverage.
"I always knew that the stuff that you read is not true, but when I was in the situation and you really, actually read things that you apparently said or did that are 100% made up ... It's just the strange, simple thing of, that's your heart they're talking about, and it just … it sucks," she added.
"100% made up?" Now you see why it reminded me of Benghazi, can't you? Like you, I was "really, actually" reading things that I knew were lies cut out of whole cloth, and it was our heart they were talking about, brave Americans murdered in the service of their country, and boy did it (and does it) suck!
What will come of the disclosure of these emails proving the depth of evil and lack of humanity of those who could look into the eyes of the families of those murdered heroes and knowingly lie about what really happened? No one knows. We do know that our celebrity culture won't change. If you doubt it, ask yourself which of the following news stories will dominate today's coverage: Prince Harry's visit to Memphis, TN or Angela Merkel's visit to the White House? Precisely.
