WASHINGTON - Illinois Congressmen John Shimkus (IL-15) and Aaron Schock (IL-17) are among the new House Majority Whip Steve Scalise's inner circle.
Congressman Shimkus shares a house in D.C. with a few other Republicans, including Scalise, and Congressman Schock was picked by Scalise to serve on his leadership team as a senior deputy, setting Schock on his way up the GOP leadership ladder.
Illinois Review reported last week that Schock was hoping to be the new top Deputy, but Scalise picked Rep. Patrick Henry of North Carolina for the spot. Henry replaces Illinois' Peter Roskam, who served as Deputy Whip under Kevin McCarthy, who is now Majority Leader.
