CHICAGO - Diana Rauner, the wife of GOP gubernatorial candidate Bruce Rauner, clarified a question many conservatives have had about the Republican nominee. Before the March primary, Rauner told conservative audiences he was "personally prolife," leaving questions as to what he'd do as governor. Would he appoint administrative and agency staff that uphold abortion rights or would he prefer life-affirming appointees?
Diana Rauner answered that question in an exclusive interview with NBC Chicago's Mary Ann Ahern Friday.
"You can trust him that no way he will ever let something happen to our reproductive rights," Mrs. Rauner told Ahern. "I think this is a great opportunity, in this race, where we don't have to actually think about the social issues, because both candidates are pro-choice."
Mrs. Rauner's comments echo those of U.S. Senator Mark Kirk, who has publicly state on several occasions that only pro-abortion candidates can win election in Illinois.
The interview will conclude on Sunday, Ahern said.
