LAKE COUNTY - Lake County voters are on the way to setting a new early voting record for mid-term elections, Lake County Clerk Willard Helander said Friday.
With two more days of early voting on Saturday and Sunday yet to go, along with more mail-in ballots expected, the grand total so far for Lake County is 54,848 voting.
"In 2010, we had 19,898 mail ballots requested and 15,340 returned. We also had 34,873 early voters. The total was 50,213," Helander said.
"This cycle, our vote by mail is 33,784 ballots requested and 21,463 returned. Early voting stands at 33,385 at 3:40 on Friday. The grand voted total so far is 54,848," she said. "We have a record for a gubernatorial race."
But this election's numbers don't match up to the 2012 presidential voting, when there were 77,763 early voters and 22,891 returned by mail in Lake County.
