HIGHLAND PARK - State Senator Mike Noland and former Deputy State Treasurer Raja Krishnamoorthi notifying supporters they're interested in succeeding Rep. Tammy Duckworth in the 8th CD.
So is Democrat Highland Park Mayor and attorney Nancy Rotering announcing a bid in the 10th, we're told. (Correction - she's running for 10th, not 8th). Rotering will be challenging Rep. Bob Dold in 2016.
In her new Nancy Rotering for Congress website, Rotering says she is a longtime and active member of the League of Women Voters, JACPAC, Personal PAC, and the Sierra Club.
"As Mayor, she founded the Leadership Alliance of Lake County and the Highland Park/Highwood Legal Aid Clinic. Nancy was honored as the 2013 Rotary Humanitarian of the Year," the site says. "In 2014, Today’s Chicago Woman named Nancy to their 100 Women of Inspiration, and she was named to the Forty Over 40 list in Forbes."
Tuesday, State Senator Mike Noland told supporters he's interested in the 8th, after Duckworth's announcement Monday she was vying for the U.S. Senate in 2016.
"I wanted to make sure that you were one of the first people to hear the big news! I am exploring a run for Congress!" an email from "Noland for Congress" said Tuesday.
Noland says he's thinking about the bid because "I am tired of the politics of the past. I am tired of the same old ideas. And I will vigorously present a bold and progressive vision that will ensure the American dream is alive for my children and future generations."
He said he's rolling up his sleeves and getting ready to hit the campaign trail - a significant statement because Noland's also up for re-election for his Senate seat in 2016.
"This will NOT be the only time you hear from me, when the campaign needs money, but I plan on reaching back out to you throughout this campaign to tell you about where I stand on the issues facing our nation," Noland says.
Duckworth was challenged by Krishnamoorthi in 2014, and he's been appointed to state positions by Attorney General Lisa Madigan, and other powerful Democrats.
A Noland-Krishnamoorthi Democratic primary over a seat drawn for Duckworth appears to be one that may be pulling precious House Democrat resources in 2016.
