MONTGOMERY AL - Former Illinois Congressman Jesse Jackson Jr was released Thursday, after 17 months in Montgomery Alabama's federal minimum security prison, to serve the rest of his 30-month sentence in a Washington DC halfway house.
The 50-year-old Democrat pleaded guilty in Nov. 2013 to using some $750,000 from his campaign on luxury items for personal use.
Jackson's wife Sandy was sentenced to one-year in prison for filing false joint federal income tax returns. She will begin her time in prison when Jackson Jr. has completed his.
Jackson resigned from representing Illinois' 2nd CD in 2013, and Congresswoman Robin Kelly succeeded him in a special election.
