EAST DUNDEE - East Dundee trustee Allen Skillicorn was already planning his "2nd annual 40th Birthday Bash"/ fundraiser for next Monday night, but a development this week changed the party's theme at the last minute. Now, Skillicorn is welcoming birthday gifts that are specific:
Indeed, Skillicorn told Illinois Review Tuesday he was "very, very interested" in running for the 66th House seat since earlier this week State Rep. Mike Tryon (R-Crystal Lake) announced his plans to retire rather than seek re-election in 2016.
Friday morning, the vice-chairman of the Kane County GOP made his interest official when he released a press statement showing he'd filed papers with the State Board of Elections for an exploratory committee, with $10,500 on hand.
“In Springfield at the Capitol I'm seeing sham bills, talks of tax hikes and a lack of any true reform,” Skillicorn said. “I’m tired of Mike Madigan and his political allies dragging the whole state of Illinois down with them.”
Locally as village trustee Skillicorn has broadened transparency, accountability and fought against property tax hikes. Working together with his fellow trustees, Skillicorn froze the tax levy in 2011, his first year in office. Those same municipal property taxes remain frozen today, his press release says.
Skillicorn's birthday bash will be hosted by Kane County Republican Party Chairman Thomas Hartwell, and will be held at Bandito Barney's from 5 to 7 pm at 10 North River Street in East Dundee.
The 66th State House District follows the Fox River Valley including parts of Algonquin, Crystal Lake, East and West Dundee, Elgin, Gilberts, Huntley, Lake in the Hills, Lakewood and Sleepy Hollow.
