Protest organizers said 1600 were outside the Planned Parenthood in Aurora Saturday morning
WASHINGTON - Congressman Randy Hultgren (IL-14) is in full support of a resolution introduced in the Illinois legislature that calls for the state to investigate Planned Parenthood clinics and their abortion procedures and any involvement in trafficking aborted baby body parts.
The resolution, sponsored by State Rep. Jeanne Ives (R-Wheaton), has nearly 50 co-sponsors - from both sides of the aisle - and still, Rep. Ives has not been able to move the resolution from the Democrat-controlled House Rules Committee.
No hearings or floor discussions have been developed in the Illinois legislature, despite other states moving to cut taxpayer dollars from supporting Planned Parenthood. Illinois' Governor Rauner has remained silent about the matter, as well.
“Planned Parenthood’s activities deserve an immediate and thorough investigation by both state and federal law enforcement, and I urge Illinois to act quickly on this resolution,” said Rep. Hultgren. “With the organization receiving more than $500 million in taxpayer dollars every year, they must be held accountable and provide detailed information about their fetal organ donation program and procedures, and their modification of abortion techniques to maximize their donations."
"Regardless of the already brutal and grotesque nature of their abortion procedures on unborn life, what was caught on tape reveals they are apparently engaging in trafficking in human organs—a federal offense," Hultgren said. "The American people deserve answers. Until we have them, Planned Parenthood should not receive one more dime of taxpayer dollars.”
Hultgren, a former member of the Illinois House, and his Republican colleague in the U.S. House, Peter Roskam, are the only two Illinoisans of 135 Congress members that signed onto a letter in July calling on Attorney General Loretta Lynch to investigate Planned Parenthood at the federal level.
When asked about the protest where 1600 were said to have gathered at the Aurora Planned Parenthood last Saturday, a spokesman for Hultgren's office said, "The Congressman supports all defenders of life, including those who last weekend drew attention to Planned Parenthood's despicable activities. The more all of us shed light and raise awareness of what is actually going on at these facilities, the more the public will support further investigations into their activities. The Congressman believes strongly that no taxpayer funding should support the harvesting of aborted baby body parts."
