SPRINGFIELD, IL – Legislation, which will amend the Open Meetings Act to make reporting violations of the law easier, was signed into law today. Representative David McSweeney's House Bill 175 allows the reporting of an Open Meetings Act violation within 60 days from the discovery of an alleged violation. Previously, the Open Meetings Act only allowed the reporting of violations within 60 days from the alleged violation itself.
“I want to thank Senator Duffy for leading the effort in the Senate to pass this common sense piece of legislation that will make it easier for citizens to report government transparency violations," McSweeney said.
