WASHINGTON - Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell wants Illinois Republicans to support Mark Kirk for U.S. Senate in 2016.
As the Majority Leader of the United States Senate, I am writing to ask you for your personal help in securing the GOP Senate majority to get our nation back on the right track.
There is one crucial U.S. Senate race Republicans cannot afford to lose in 2016, and that seat is held by my good friend and colleague, Republican Senator Mark Kirk.
It is no secret that Mark is accustomed to fighting tough battles and winning them. Six years ago, he defeated the Democratic machine and won the U.S. Senate seat previously held by President Obama, and prior to that, his record for winning House races was 5-0. His victorious record is evidence that the people of Illinois believe in Mark's values.
Mark is a staunch fiscal conservative and defense hawk whom understands the need to prioritize spending on national security first and foremost. Not only is Mark a much-needed vote to roll back Obamacare and pass a balanced budget amendment to the Constitution, but he's also a leader on national defense and protecting our friend and ally, Israel. Mark stands up for Illinois everyday in the US Senate -- by fighting Chicago's gangs, expanding infrastructure, and keeping manufacturing jobs in Illinois from going overseas.
In short, Mark's first term in the U.S. Senate has been a resounding success and he is one of the Republican Senators I am personally helping to win reelection because the country needs his leadership.
The Democrats have made no secret to the fact that Mark is their #1 GOP target to win this seat back and retake control of the Senate, and we cannot allow that to happen.
Thank you for your time and thank you for the honor of serving America as the Majority Leader of the U.S. Senate.
Sincerely,
Mitch McConnell
Kirk is being challenged by conservative Oswego businessman James Marter in the March 15, 2016 GOP primary.
