On Tuesday, President Donald Trump dominated Illinois’ Primary night, winning in a landslide as Trump delegates cruised to easy victories, solidifying his status as the leader of the national Republican Party.
With 92 percent of the vote counted, Trump leads with over 80 percent, while Nikki Haley sits at 14 percent and Ron DeSantis at just 2 percent.
Shortly after the polls closed, Trump posted a message on his Truth Social account, writing, “THANK YOU, ILLINOIS – MAGA!”
Trump delegates also had an impressive showing, dominating election night alongside the 45th President of the United States. In the 6th District, Trump Delegate candidate Scott Kaspar – IR’s General Counsel, led the pack with 25,917 votes. Kathleen Abbate, another Trump Delegate was also at the top of the board with 25,772 votes and Joyce Hebin rounded out the delegate ticket with 24,006 votes.
Orland Park Mayor Keith Pekau, who was the Republican nominee for Congress in the 6th District during the 2022 cycle, was listed as a delegate for Ron DeSantis, who dropped out of the presidential race in January – earned just 2,084 votes – far behind Kaspar, Abbate and Hebin.
Kaspar, U.S. Rep. Mike Bost and Darren Bailey generated the most votes out of any Illinois Trump Delegate, proving the power of the Trump name and brand in a state where party officials backed DeSantis. Bost and Bailey reside in a deep red district that overwhelmingly supports Trump.
