Springfield, IL – The Illinois Freedom Caucus is issuing the following statement on the gender services the Ann and Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago is offering to children.

“We are appalled to learn that one of the premier Children’s hospitals in Illinois is offering gender services to minors.

According to their website, the Ann and Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago offers ‘services aimed at supporting the physical, mental and social health of patients and their families as youth progress through gender identity development.’ The kids they treat are ‘children and adolescents who exhibit behavior that is not typical of their assigned birth sex’ and ‘who are questioning their gender identities’ or who ‘identify as a gender different from their assigned birth sex.’

While no minimum age is listed, it is clear the Hospital is targeting children for puberty blockers and various types of surgeries as part of the Hospital’s ‘physical’ care.

Children who believe in Santa Claus and think being a Ninja is a viable career option do not have the clarity of thought to make life-altering decisions for themselves. It is up to us as a society to stand up for these kids and protect them from their foolish parents who have bought into the destructive gender ideology.

The purpose of healthcare facilities is to heal not destroy. Mutilating and chemically castrating kids is not humane. It is destructive, barbaric, and wrong. The idea that kids should have life altering surgery that cannot be undone is sick and perverted. It is one thing for consenting adults to make decisions like this for themselves. It is quite another for these decisions to be made for kids who do not know any better and who are young and impressionable and who constantly change their minds.

We will be introducing legislation to ban chemical castrations and gender surgeries for minors in Illinois but until this legislation is approved, we call on the Ann and Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago to cease providing these services to minors.”

The Illinois Freedom Caucus is comprised of State Representatives Chris Miller (R-Oakland); Adam Niemerg (R-Dieterich); Brad Halbrook (R-Shelbyville); Blaine Wilhour (R-Beecher City) and Dan Caulkins (R-Decatur). The members of the Illinois Freedom Caucus are members of the Illinois General Assembly who are advocating for limited government, lower taxes and accountability and integrity in government.
