DIXON – In Ronald Reagan's home town Wednesday morning, an armed 19 year old entered the Dixon High School with intention to harm. The school's armed resource officer "saved countless lives" when he confronted the shooter, chasing him out of building before he injured any students or staff.

"I could not be more proud of the police officer and the way he responded to the situation. With shots ringing out through the hallways of the school, he charged towards the suspect and confronted him head-on," said Dixon Police Chief Steven Howell. "Because of his heroic actions countless lives were saved. We are forever indebted to him for his service and his bravery."

Congressman Adam Kinzinger released a statement shortly after the incident from his D.C. office. Dixon is in Kinzinger's 16th CD.

“As we continue to gather more information about the shooting incident at Dixon High School this morning, I extend my deepest gratitude to the Dixon Police Department, and especially the School Resource Officer (SRO) on-site, for their swift action today and for keeping our students, teachers, and our community safe,” Kinzinger said.

The names of the shooter nor the resource officer have been released.
