CHICAGO – Over the 2019 4th of July weekend, six Chicagoans were killed and 69 wounded – much worse than US gunfire casualties overseas this past weekend, but less deadly than holiday weekends in Chicago in years past.

Chicago's HeyJackass.com website reports the lowest number of gun killings  over a 4th of July weekend since 2016:

2019 weekend tally: 6 killed, 69 wounded
2018 weekend tally: 10 killed, 42 wounded
2017 weekend tally: 15 killed, 89 wounded
2016 weekend tally: 6 killed, 62 wounded
2015 weekend tally: 11 killed, 55 wounded
2014 weekend tally: 16 killed, 66 wounded
2013 weekend tally: 15 killed, 63 wounded

None of the six deaths had anything to do with the panic and mayhem that broke out at Navy Pier July 4th. CWB Chicago reports security misidentified fireworks as gun fire, which caused 16 to be injured in a stampede off the pier. The same night, three were stabbed at Navy Pier, CWB Chicago reports:

Two teenagers were stabbed in a fight that began after gang signs were exchanged between men outside the pier around the same time, police said. A 15-year-old stabbed in the armpit and a 14-year-old stabbed in the arm and rib were transported to Lurie’s Children’s Hospital where their conditions stabilized, police said. Neither teen was being cooperative with police.

A 30-year-old man was stabbed in the face and arm in a separate incident, police said. He told police that he could not remember any details of the stabbing and said he did not see the person who stabbed him. Police said the man was being treated at Northwestern Memorial Hospital.
