In a deeply personal gesture, President Donald J. Trump has sent a powerful condolence letter on official presidential letterhead to former State Senator Darren Bailey and his family, offering prayers and comfort after the tragic helicopter crash that claimed the lives of the Baileys’ son Zachary, his wife Kelsey, and two of their young children, Vada Rose and Samuel.
The letter begins, “Dear Darren,” and expresses the president’s profound sorrow.
“Melania and I are utterly devastated by the tragic accident resulting in the unimaginable loss of your incredible son, Zachary, his beautiful wife, Kelsey, and two of their precious children,” Trump wrote.
He praised Zachary as “a testament to the values you and Cindy raised him with,” noting that faith, family, and community were the guiding forces of his life.

Trump wrote that he hoped the Baileys might find solace in knowing the young family is “together again in the arms of their Creator,” and he expressed confidence that their surviving grandson, Finn, “will certainly carry on the indelible legacy of his parents and siblings.”
The president also turned to Darren Bailey’s leadership and decades-long service to Illinois.
“Throughout your career, you have been a true champion for the people of Illinois,” he wrote, encouraging Bailey to continue to “Fight! Fight! Fight!” for the state he loves, even amid profound grief. “Their love for you will forever endure, and their spirits will remain by your side,” the letter said.
Shortly after receiving the president’s message, Darren Bailey took to social media to thank supporters and to make one point unmistakably clear: he is staying in the race for governor.
“We will FIGHT, FIGHT, FIGHT – and we will WIN,” Bailey wrote. “Cindy and I aren’t backing down. Not now. Not ever. Illinois families are hurting, and we’re standing shoulder to shoulder with every single one of you who’s tired of being ignored, overtaxed, and pushed aside.”
Trump closed his letter by assuring the family that the entire nation is praying for them:
“May God bless you, and may His grace grant you and Cindy abiding peace and comfort.”
The message reflects a bond that has strengthened over the years. President Trump endorsed Bailey’s gubernatorial bid in 2022, and their friendship remains firm – grounded in shared values, faith, and a commitment to Illinois families.
