CRETE, Illinois – More and more questions are arising as Will County law enforcement and the coroner's office investigates finding the remains of 2,246 aborted babies at a Crete, Illinois abortionist's home last Thursday.

The news of the discovery hit the media late Friday afternoon, as more is learned about the late 79-year-old abortionist Urlich Klopfer, who lost his license several years ago after reportedly failing to report a procedure in Indiana on at least one 13 year old girl. Klopfer performed abortions in Ft. Wayne, Gary and South Bend.

A group of Indiana legislators – Rep. Ron Bacon (R-Chandler), Rep. Liz Brown (R-Fort Wayne), Rep. Christy Stutzman (R-Goshen) and Rep. Denny Zent (R-Angola) – want the Indiana attorney general’s office to investigate whether some of those fetal remains were illegally transported from Indiana. Klopfer's home is one mile west of the Indiana – Illinois border.

An attorney for the family said they had "No answers" for what they found last week.

The Will County Sheriff's office said the bodies were discovered while the family was going through the estate after Klopfer's death September 3. The estate attorney contacted the coroner's office for appropriate disposal of the bodies, the department said.

Monday, the Illinois Right to Life group issued the following statement:

“If these fetuses are not members of our human family, why are we appalled?” said IRL Executive Director Mary Kate Knorr. “Abortion advocates would have us believe that abortion is a benign procedure. This news is a clear indication that abortion isn’t only damaging for the woman and the child – it also has an impact on the doctors performing the abortions, who know they’re taking human lives. Dr. Klopfer’s behavior isn’t consistent with that of an average physician. On the contrary, it’s consistent with the behavior of the handful of infamous serial killers who kept trophies of their victims.”

The fetuses are currently being held by the Will County Coroner’s Office. Illinois Right to Life is awaiting the guidance of Rest in His Arms, a pro-life nonprofit that provides dignified burials for aborted children, and asks all other interested pro-life groups in the state of Illinois to do the same.
