By Mark Weyermuller –

The Dundee Township Republican Organization held their annual picnic Sunday at the Randall Oaks Zoo & Parks in West Dundee. Attendees feasted on pasta, hot dogs, and shish kabobs as candidates made their pitches for the upcoming primaries.

The weather was challenging at 62 degrees and light rain. The enthusiastic crowd was able to hear from various Republican candidates for statewide as well as national offices. Linda Prestia, precinct chairperson, was responsible for gathering the candidates.

State Representative Allen Skillicorn gave a pitch in support of President Donald J. Trump. He asked the crowd to raise their hand  if they “enthusiastically support the president.”  Candidates should be prepared for the question of their support of President Trump.

While some strategists think “hedging” on support for the president will gain them moderate votes, others feel this will cost them conservative votes – which makes up much of the primary voting base.

Both GOP candidates for the 6th congressional district vying to replace Democrat Sean Casten spoke.  Jeanne Ives and Evelyn Sanguinetti both were well received by the crowd. This is turning into one of the most watched races this cycle.

One highlight for me was picking up a new yard sign that reads, “Vote Republican, Save Our State.”  I haven’t seen a sign like this in Illinois in years. My advice to Illinois GOP Chairman Tom Schneider and various Republican township chairmen is to purchase about 50,000 of these signs to place around the state.

The Illinois primary is just 190 days away on Tuesday, March 17, 2020.
