CHICAGO – The national pollsters Trafalgar Group say Illinois Republicans are trending toward state Senator Darren Bailey and his running mater Stephanie Trussell to be their gubernatorial nominees in the November 2022 election in which J.B. Pritzker is running for re-election.

Over the weekend of June 10-13, 1075 likely Illinois Republican voters were asked if the election were today, who they would vote for as governor and lieutenant governor. 37.6% answered Bailey/Trussell. The next highest was Richard Irvin/Avery Bourne at 20%.

Those figures reflect a poll released by the Chicago Sun-Times earlier this week, which had Bailey 15 points ahead of Aurora Mayor Richard Irvin.

The race to be Illinois Republicans' U.S. Senate nominee to face Tammy Duckworth is tighter among those who've made their pick. The race now appears to be between downstate military veteran and activist Peggy Hubbard and Lake County attorney Kathy Salvi. Hubbard has been unable to raised $100,000 and Salvi has loaned $250,000 to her campaign – but the downstate enthusiasm for Hubbard, who ran against former Lake County sheriff Mark Curran for the U.S. Senate nominee spot two years ago, seems to line up with Darren Bailey supporters.

Salvi, who is backed by prolife groups and recommended by Illinois Family Action, joined the primary race just before petition filing began in late March.

The real notable figure in the U.S. Senate polling is that over 60% of those polled have yet to decide who they'll put at the top of the November ballot, where the U.S. Senate race will be located.

The Trafalgar Group's findings have been generally accurate as they poll other statewide races such as those in South Carolina and Georgia.
