More than 1,800 jobs are on the chopping block in Illinois and more could be on the way. That’s according to the latest report of mass layoffs through the Illinois Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act, or WARN.
The November report says General Mills in West Chicago will lay off 444 employees beginning next month and lasting through May of 2017. St. Mary's Hospital in Streator will have 350 worker layoffs beginning next month. Orbitz Worldwide said they began laying off an undisclosed number of workers last month.
Six of the companies listed say they are closing while only one of the nine companies that provided numbers of affected workers, Balmoral Racing Club, Inc., said bankruptcy was the reason 52 workers will be laid off beginning in late January.
