WASHINGTON DC – Democrat Tammy Duckworth – who faces two opponents in her bid to be Illinois' U.S. Senate nominee – is calling for Democrats to pressure incumbent GOP Senator Mark Kirk to a fair hearing on President Obama's expected U.S. Supreme Court nominee.

Over the weekend, conservative Justice Antonin Scalia died suddenly, leaving Democrats with a coveted opportunity to fill the open seat with another liberal Obama pick to fill the court.

Duckworth's campaign said Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell responded to the news of Scalia's death and seat vacancy with "knee-jerk obstructionism," vowing “This vacancy should not be filled until we have a new president.”

"Mark Kirk hasn’t said yet whether he agrees with McConnell’s partisan obstinance. Join us in urging Kirk to immediately commit to giving President Obama’s eventual nominee a fair hearing," an email to Duckworth supporters says.

And they offer the following link to connect through the Duckworth campaign to Kirk's office: http://action.tammyduckworth.com/supreme-court

"Kirk and his fellow Republican senators have a constitutional obligation to participate in the nomination process and allow the president’s Supreme Court nominee a vote," Duckworth's campaign said. "Let’s make sure Kirk knows Illinoisans will be watching to make sure he fulfills his responsibility to our nation."

  1. As long as justices mess with the Constitution to ‘do what Obama wants,’ instead of what the document actually mandates, we must have a justice who respects the original meaning and intent of the constitution, We know from past history this president’s picks will only go to those who agree with him politically. The Constitution is not a living organism, it is a legal document that has a fixed meaning, Obama’s previous appointments have made a tyrannical use of power against the supreme law of the land by rewriting the constitution. Do NOT allow this illegitimate president Obama to appoint another judicial tyrant, stop his appointments and allow the new president to make the appointment.

  2. As long as justices willfully twist and redefine the Constitution to ‘do what Obama wants,’ instead of what the document actually mandates, we must stand firm and insist the nomination of the justice be one who respects the original meaning and intent of the constitution, We know from past history this current president’s picks will only go to those who agree with him politically. The Constitution is not a living organism, it is a legal document that has a fixed meaning, Obama’s previous appointments have made a tyrannical use of power against the supreme law of the land and this nation by redefining the constitution. The senate must NOT allow Obama to appoint another immoral judicial tyrant, stop his appointments and allow the new president to make the appointment.
Bork them, the democrats set the precedence…

  3. I’d settle for hearings on Duckworth’s time at the VA when she improperly abused employees, or maybe the court proceedings against unindicted multiple felon Hillary Clinton.
I can wait for hearings on the next Supreme, but I’d really like to see these other two start right away…
