CHICAGO – The Cook County Board will vote Wednesday morning whether or not businesses will be required to provide paid sick days for their full- and part-time employees.

Leftist groups such as AFSCME, SEIU, Planned Parenthood, the Chicago Teachers Union and the Council on American-Islamic Relations are on board with the effort.

The group's are planning to meet before the Board's 10:00 am meeting Wednesday morning to demonstrate their support for the effort.

One board member – Sean Morrison – has sent out a plea to local businessmen to call and attend the meeting to oppose county government putting salary mandates on county businesses. It sets another precedent that will discourage businesses in the county, he told Illinois Review earlier this week.

The Cook County Earned Sick Time Coalition is made up of Arise Chicago, Chicago Federation of Labor, Restaurant Opportunities Center – Chicago, Sargent Shriver National Center on Poverty Law, United Food and Commercial Workers Local 881, Women Employed
